D-backs beat Giants in series finale to earn sweep

The Force was with Josh Collmenter and the D-backs.

It was Star Wars Day at Chase Field on Sunday, and the variety of Darth Vaders, Princess Leias and Yodas in attendance saw the 2011 National League West champion D-backs cap the magical weekend off with a 5-2 win over San Francisco in the series finale.

Owings thrilled to be back in postseason

Micah Owings gets chills just thinking about it.

The right-hander was a rookie in 2007. He appeared in 29 games for the D-backs that season, posting an 8-8 record with a 4.30 ERA.

Owings’ rookie campaign was anything but typical as he helped propel the D-backs to 90 wins and the franchise’s fourth National League Western Division Championship.

Gibson preps for Giants series

When two arch division rivals are playing meaningful September baseball, it makes for plenty of exciting series late in the summer.

The D-backs and Giants have been locked in a compelling battle for the division crown since late May. Arizona holds a six-game lead with six games to play in the regular season. With the magic number at one, San Francisco comes to the Valley of the Sun for a three-game series.

Playoff Tickets Go on Sale at 9 a.m. Friday at Chase Field

After a thrilling regular season, the 2011 Major League Baseball playoffs are right around the corner.

The D-backs are one win or one Giants loss away from clinching the franchise’s fifth National League Western Division championship. Arizona hosts San Francisco in a three-game series this weekend before closing out the regular season schedule next week with a three-game set against the Dodgers. (more…)

Bradley embarks on professional career

He was faced with a daunting decision.

Archie Bradley, a two-sport star at Broken Arrow High School, needed to decide between football and baseball. Bradley committed to the University of Oklahoma football team as a quarterback, and was drafted seventh overall by Arizona in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft. Presented with a pair of attractive offers, he had to choose between joining a supremely talented Sooner squad or embarking on a journey to the Major Leagues.
